Vintage
Clothing Department:
Faye has once again asked us to
remind dealers who
place items in the Vintage Clothing Department to PLEASE use string tags
to attach your
prices instead of scraps of paper pinned or taped to the item! When
clothing is tried on,
you can understand that straight pins and tape come undone, creating a mess
on the floor,
leaving Faye to figure out which tag goes with which article of clothing
and, worse, having
customers bring items to the front with no clue as to who or how much.
So everybody loses.
Be sure to attach the string tag to the garment and not on the hanger, as
hangers get switched
unintentionally in the try-on process. And, finally, if you want your
hangers returned to you,
they must be labeled with your dealer number and marked NFS. Check in
the Dealer Room
for hangers that belong to you.
City of
Sacramento business license audits:
If your state Board of
Equalization seller's
permit bears an address other than Midway's address, and that other address
is within the City of Sacramento city limits, you may be receiving a letter
from a company the city has hired to
"conduct a compliance audit of the City's business operation tax ordinance
for the years of 2006 through 2010." Midway's dealers who have sold
exclusively at Midway from 2006 to present are not affected by this since
Midway dealers operate under Midway's license. If you sell anywhere
else, within the city of Sacramento, you may possibly be contacted by the
audit group, as two of our dealers have recently been. If you are
contacted by MuniServices regarding this, and you have sold nowhere other
than at Midway since 2006, see Mark. He will provide you with a letter
to present
to the audit service company verifying that you do not require the '"City of
Sacramento Business
Operations Tax certificate" referred to in their letter.
Advertising
Gimmicks: Some dealers have suggested that Midway utilize
outdoor signs, banners,
sidewalk A-frames, acrobats, etc., to drum up business, and we have always
replied that such things are against Sacramento County codes, which was made
very clear to us when we have applied for and received our County business
licenses. We recently came across the old Antique Plaza's dealer
letter from January 23, 2003, detailing their experience regarding this type
of advertising. It makes interesting reading and confirms our
understanding of the consequences of utilizing such gimmicks. The
letter is in the Dealer Room for your info.
DEALER
AGREEMENTS READY TO SIGN:
The Dealer Rental Agreement pertinent to the
Madison Avenue location is now ready for you to review and sign. It is
four pages in length.
Separate from, but included as part of, the Dealer Agreement is the 7-page
"Rules for Dealers"
that will help new dealers learn Midway's procedures and remind "old"
dealers of the do's and
don'ts. A copy of the rules will be kept in the Dealer Room and at the
front counter for reference.
Please allow 15-30 minutes on your next
trip to Midway to review and complete the blanks in
the rental agreement. A signed copy will be returned to you.
It is in your best interest to complete
the document ASAP. It protects you in the event that
something should happen to Mark and Ann (like on their road trip to Mt.
Rushmore in August)
or to you (your heirs/estate will then have unfettered legal right to your
possessions and
outstanding sales proceeds at Midway). It states what you are to be paid for
your sales (or even
that you are to be paid!), that your layaway items are protected, that
you are legally operating
under Midway's business license, that Midway is collecting and paying sales
tax on your sales,
etc. And it protects us from liability when that 50-pound anchor you
placed on top of your
showcase hits someone in the head before we can remind you of the safety
rules prohibiting
such placement!
So please make it a priority to get your rental agreement signed!
RULES FOR
DEALERS: This document,
appended to the Dealer Rental Agreement, covers
just about everything you need to know about operating as a dealer at
Midway. You will have
your own copy, a copy will be in the Dealer Room and at the front counter
for reference.
Therefore, there will be less posted and lingering on this website page and
your pay statements having to do with rules. Just reminders as
necessary.
DEALERS' BUYING
DAY: Because we have people
regularly coming in and calling wanting to
sell stuff, we have expanded the dealer buying day from once a month to
every Sunday, from Noon to
2 p.m.
ART'S FOOD BANK:
Some of you are aware of Dealer Art Quezada's involvement as
Director of "A Full Pantry" Food Bank, which helps thousands of people
monthly survive
the present bleak economy. In Midway's Dealer Room you'll find a
donation box for
(edible) food donations, which Art will pick up on a regular basis. If
you've recently
changed your family's diet or started a new one yourself and have good food
you don't
want to just trash, please consider donating it to Art's food bank via
Midway.
Appraisal
donations and other sales proceeds earmarked for charity
will now be
forwarded to the Sacramento organization of Loaves
& Fishes and designated for the
animals of the homeless. We have been
contributing to PAWS for several years but
have determined that
they have ample, generous donors, and the few hundred dollars
that
Midway raises each year will go a long way towards providing some
basic care for
animals of the homeless.
